A Simple Gathering of All Things Primitive and Country

About Us

Sandy Spier...

Born and raised in Joliet, Illinois.  I married my husband Scot in 1992 and a year later we moved to LaCrosse Wisconsin.  I have enjoyed a long career in retail.  I was a manager with Kohl's for 7 years and a general manager with Old Navy for 3 years upon returning to the DeKalb area.

I remember the first time I attended the Kane County flea market... I was hooked.  My heart would start beating fast with each new bargain that I would find.  A friend would ask "what are you going to do with that?"  I wasn't really sure but I knew that I could find a new purpose for some of that "junk".  I remember thinking that my dream would be to find a way to make a living by shopping at the flea market.  So...a small pile of treasures started accumulating in my basement in hopes that one day I could open up my very own shop.

That dream came true in May 2006 when I opened Poppy Seed Primitives.

Owning my own business has been an amazing experience. I'm one of the few people who can't wait to get to work everyday. I enjoy visiting with my customers everyday.  Many have become friends!

I also love merchandising the shop with the ever changing inventory.
I started with carrying only antiques and now have found that I enjoy mixing the old with the new.  I still look forward to hunting for treasures at flea markets and estate sales but I also have grown to love some of the unique vendor items that I sell.

During my free time I like to read and work on projects around the house.  And of course, spend time with my husband and our latest Golden rescue, Georgie.
